Are you stressed? Then watch this video and learn a trick to help you relax.
Belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing, is something that we all used to do as babies. Many of us have adopted chest breathing which does not allow as much air into the lungs to fuel our muscles and brain. You may not even be aware that you are chest breathing until you experience diaphragmatic breathing!
Chest breathing is much more shallow and is similar to how one breathes during hyperventilation, or stressful situations. By being mindful of where and how we are breathing in air, we can attempt to allow the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and relax) to take over and let those stressful feelings and thought melt away.
